Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th, 2000) is an American singer-actress whose career spans over 40 years. A torch-singer renowned for her gorgeous, sultry contralto singing, London recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz standards between 1955 and 1969. The first time she was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was the recording of "Cry Me a River" the track she premiered on her debut album. London was nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award as a actor for her role in Emergency! of Dixie McCall. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her career as an actress. London's 35-year acting career began in film in 1944. It featured roles in the lead female role in several westerns. She signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the start of her professional career in music. In 1969, she released her last studio album. However she was a star in television's Emergency series as Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) She was joined by her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband also produced the show.
